Panel-Discussion: “EU Inc. and the future of the Single Market: Removing barriers and securing legal certainty for SMEs”

The Panel Discussion “EU Inc. and the Future of the Single Market: Removing Barriers and Securing Legal Certainty for SMEs” will shed light on topical developments of the legislative process of the EU Inc. and provide space for an open exchange. It will bring together representatives from the European institutions, business, academia and the notarial profession. 

The discussion will focus on how the proposed EU Inc. can facilitate cross-border business activities, particularly for start-ups, scale-ups and innovative SMEs, while ensuring legal certainty and transparency. It will also address the growing geopolitical relevance of reliable company information, including for preventing money laundering, sanctions evasion and the infiltration of critical infrastructure.

A comparative common-law perspective will complement the discussion, with Professor Peter L. Murray (Harvard University) examining the Delaware corporate model and its relevance to the EU Inc. debate. The panel will also explore the contribution of civil-law notaries to efficient and secure company formation, trustworthy registers and reliable cross-border transactions.

Hosted by Member of the European Parliament Lukas Mandl (EPP) at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the event is organised within the Pan-European Working Group in cooperation with the Austrian, German, Italian and Spanish Chambers of Civil-Law Notaries and in the framework of the European SME Week.
